The Suffolk County Public Employees Deferred Compensation Plan is a voluntary supplemental government 457 (b) savings program that provides quality investment options to help county employees achieve their retirement goals.
The Suffolk County Public Employees Deferred Compensation Board provides prudent oversight of the program for the benefit of plan participants and their beneficiaries.

Government
457(b) plan deferral limits for 2008 have been announced by
the Internal Revenue Service and remain unchanged from 2007
limits. The
Normal
maximum deferral for 2008 remains $15,500. The
Age 50+ Contribution
limit for 2008 remains $5,000.
Participants who are at least age 50 or who will turn
age 50 by December 31, 2008 are eligible to defer up to $20,
500 in 2008. Participants who are eligible for the 3-year
Retirement Catch-up may contribute up to $31,000 in 2008.

Age 50+
Contributions and Retirement Catch-up cannot be deferred
in the same calendar year.
Deferral
limits for 2009 will be announced in late October 2008.
Update:
Deferring
from Accruals (SCAT) Check:
Any
County employees who would like to defer from their vacation and
sick time accruals in their SCAT check must be an active member
of the Deferred Compensation Plan for at least six months.
Participants who want to defer from their SCAT check,
must submit a Balance
of Normal and Age 50 + Deferrals from Accruals (SCAT) Check application
(available in FORMS link above) before the first of the
month that you are severing your employment with

Early
Retirement Incentive:
As
stated above, deferrals can be made from vacation and sick time
accruals. Anyone separating from service in July 2008 must
submit the application referenced above by June 30, 2008.
A determination was made that deferred compensation
contributions cannot be taken from the early retirement
incentive checks issued upon severance from County service.
